| Langfuse (https://langfuse.com) | Backend Engineer, Product Engineer, Design Engineer | Berlin Germany | in-person | Full-time
I’m Max, co-founder and CTO of Langfuse (YC W23) – we’re building open source LLMOps dev tooling (Github: https://github.com/langfuse/langfuse/). We started with observability and have branched out into more workflows over time (evals, prompt mgmt, playground, testing…). We have a bunch of traction and are looking for our fourth to sixth hire in scaling and building feature depth. We’re hiring in person (4-5 days/week) in Berlin, Germany (salary ranges for each job 70k-130k, up to 0.35% equity).
We value quality in engineering at Langfuse: We try to find elegant solutions to complex engineering challenges, and we invested significant effort in enhancing our production setup (infra as code, top observability setup and more).
If you’d love shipping in open source, writing about what you work on and working hard with super interesting and sophisticated customers (devs) – reach out!

| ⍃Kalvium, Bangalore, India (onsite/hybrid – HSR Layout). Internships (DSA and coding Interns).
Hi folks, I’m hiring in the engineering curriculum team at Kalvium – the only edtech where we bring a focused, standardized, digital approach to CS higher education. I speak about this on this podcast (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=be1yEJbyEkQ).
We have 6-month internships for DSA Programmers, and Project programmers. This role requires creating code/problems/projects for our students. Domains include full-stack, data-science, cybersecurity and DevOps. Post internship full-time conversion is also possible basis performance.
Here’s 3 cool things we’ve done:
1. 100% AI based evaluators in B.Tech CS 4 year program.
2. Measuring and improving each one of the 4000 hours of the program in the classroom.
2. Launched our full-fledged program in 20+ universities in India, where students are placed from 3rd semester onwards. This year we’ve had more premium universities signup: SRM, VIT, Christ, etc.
3. Solid business fundamentals – sustainability in every classroom with our revenue.
Our main realization is: we can’t rely on people to drive a significant change, rather it has to be a system which builds and uplifts skills in students. That’s what we’ve built and launched in above universities (https://kalvium.com/heros/). We have a 12 year roadmap! it’s a blue ocean, and we want to build and lead Edtech V2.0.
Please reach out to me via [email protected] with your resume. include your existing competitive coding platform links, coding projects, and any experience of tutoring others on technology. We have a high bar on this selection. | https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42919502#d65265569f9f0bd9153a5c7fea6c2ace84777175003def455f313b1f5cf86bbc |
| Chorus One | https://chorus.one/careers | Platforms Engineer | REMOTE (Switzerland ± 6 hours)
Chorus One operates validators on many proof-of-stake blockchains (the ones where security is based on a Byzantine fault-tolerant consensus algorithm rather than wasting energy). We are hiring for several roles, but the ones I will highlight is what we call the Platforms Engineer and Infrastructure Software Engineer. Some companies call this Site Reliability Engineering or Devops.
The main thing we do is take upstream software, build it, run it on our infrastructure, and then monitor it and optimize that setup. Some things that make this interesting are:
* Building automation that enables us to do this for many networks (60+ currently).
* Doing this with high uptime, building automation for failover, etc.
* Working with software that is on the one hand cutting-edge and doing interesting things (consensus algorithms, distributed systems, cryptography), but on the other hand that means it’s immature and often not easy to operate and monitor. Often we have to build custom tools, and dive into the source code of the project. We contribute patches upstream when it makes sense.
* Some of these projects are exercising the limits of what a machine can do, we have to do some low-level investigation that requires understanding of what the Linux kernel and network hardware are doing to properly identify what’s going on.
We do have a small cloud footprint, but run primarily on bare metal. We are looking for people who can not just configure services offered by the public clouds, but who deeply understand what lies below; people who could build their own cloud. (That sounds a bit pretentious and it’s not exactly what we do, but it does involve many of the same aspects.)
If this sounds interesting to you, check out https://careers.chorus.one/o/platforms-engineer-remote and https://careers.chorus.one/o/senior-software-engineer-infras…. We have two job descriptions to appeal to people from different backgrounds; internally we treat it as a spectrum, and the interview process is similar. Whether you’re an infrastructure person who wants to move more into coding, or a software engineer who wants to get into automating operations, feel free to apply to the role that resonates more with you.
We are also hiring for other roles, see https://chorus.one/careers. | https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42919502#9bffd8c1387895fa53a3a4f99c95bb3519876ad633123c71fe231e4bf5c6264f |

Why? | https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42919502#5d02b8c4732b206a5607861fc4f889a367981d3e388082c36f429ec177e588d2 |
| We’re 100% remote in that we don’t have offices anywhere in the world, you can work from home etc.
However we’re focusing our hiring on specific hubs including Colorado (we actually don’t mind which city / town you live in within Colorado), and Brazil (with some emphasis on Florianopolis.
We have team mates all over the world, so we’re not totally opposed to folks coming from wherever but it’s not without its overhead: regulatory burden in needing to register and pay taxes in all of these jurisdictions, impacts on ability to get together for offsites in central locations etc.
So yes, we’re fully remote but for these roles we have a strong bias for people in Colorado or Brazil. | https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42919502#5cfa7218bd6efacf133358d3da61efe8735c747f9acaf3ac952b56b4de31abb7 |

| PGL Esports – Esportal | C++ developer for Windows Anti-Cheat | Full-time | Remote or Bucharest | https://esportal.com
Esportal is a competitive platform for major eSports titles powered by PGL Esports (PGL Majors rings a bell?). Our in-house and from-scratch built Anti-Cheat is currently focusing on Counter-Strike 2 @ Windows 10+11 x64. We’re looking for a passionate C++ developer who loves crunching lines of code. We have many ideas that want to be implemented by you.
Who you are: You’re comfortable with coding. You know modern C++. You likely spent 5+ years as a (hobby?) programmer and have made a lot of mistakes and learned from those. You survived nights in front of the holy Visual Studio debugger on Windows. You used Git and merge workflows. You were annoyed by linker errors and had victories over clang or MSVC. You know what a mutex is and think in terms of CPU slices. You favor native over Electron. You secretly dream at night to have hair like Bjarne.
What you maybe did: You’ve built your own home automation? Your own game? Your own container implementation? Your own CI? Your own OS? Your own programming language? We want you!
What you will be doing: You will implement code according to specification (you can influence those of course), work on our backlog and go on bug hunting sessions with a debugger. You will be working together with us and will not shy away from asking us questions proactively by talking/writing in fluent English. You will be enjoying cheat vendors catching up to us and playing the cat and mouse game with them.
What we offer: Small dedicated remote-first and open-minded team. Well-architectured code base originated in 2022 using C++23. Your code will partially run in Windows kernel mode. We don’t have scheduled meetings. We talk on the spot and are always available for help. We don’t care about your working hours if you are available during UTC+2 in the warmup period of some months.
Ready for a short interview process? Talk directly to our team. Send an email to [email protected] and mention HackerNews to get fast-tracked. | https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42919502#cb145d1b3b1247996760f80de52732f9fed11d13864312f697c91211f653c573 |

| Ameba | Full-stack Engineer | London | ONSITE | £100-130k + Equity
Join us in building Ameba, an AI platform that turns supply chain noise into knowledge.
Supply chains shape everything around you. Your phone, your laptop, even the chair you’re sitting on. Yet, the data behind them is a mess: siloed in Excel sheets, private WhatsApp conversations, email threads and PDFs named FINAL_FINAL_ORDER_v4.pdf. It’s difficult to make sense of what’s actually happening on the ground.
If you’re the kind of engineer who thrives on solving novel challenges, such as building modern data pipelines to construct a supply chain from unstructured communication streams, Ameba offers you the opportunity to build from first principles in a greenfield space.
We’re a seed startup made up of experienced entrepreneurs (who have previously raised $160m+, built supply chains for 30+ brands) and builders (formerly at Google, Microsoft, Snap, Apple, Meta & Palantir). We have big ambitions and are backed by the best investors in Europe, having raised over $9m since our launch just over a year ago — and we’re just getting started.
If you’re interested, please email me directly via craig (at) ameba (dot) ai with [HN] in the subject. | https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42919502#0bd205fa1c68aa0c80c1f60da35ca388e23f30e6ad2d1f3ade1f533a148f083b |
| 1. > However, customers still get a lot of value out keeping downstream systems synced with their warehouse tables. For instance, you can define which people you want to receive different campaigns and make sure that’s consistent across all your ad platforms.
Ah thank you that’s a very helpful example for understanding your product.
2. > Some people have warehouse tables with many billions of rows.
I don’t doubt customers have multi billion row tables in their CDWs but I guess I’m not seeing why you would need to send billions of rows to FB (or any other downstream system that isn’t an OLAP database) rather than some much smaller payload distilled from that data via an ML model or SQL query. I admittedly have never run a FB ad campaign but Meta has 3.35 billion daily active users [1] across all of their products. If they are sending billions of rows to FB, do your customers have individualized ad campaigns for every single FB user? Perhaps I’m just not familiar enough with the state of modern digital advertising.
3. > If you have a billion rows, you need to hit a very high rows per second number in order to run a sync in a feasible amount of time.
I wonder why do you have to send billions of rows to FB every time? Surely you send it once for initial setup and then incrementally sync smaller deltas? And presumably your customer is OK with the initial setup being slower. Unless your customer is doing billions of writes to their CDW in between syncs?
Thanks for taking the time to explain!

| I work on the syncing team at Hightouch. These are great questions and also good feedback on how we could be clearer when describing the problems we need to solve.
1. We also support the case you describe, in which an ML model processes data and then updates properties in a destination. However, customers still get a lot of value out keeping downstream systems synced with their warehouse tables. For instance, you can define which people you want to receive different campaigns and make sure that’s consistent across all your ad platforms. You can also use it for simple projects like easily keeping Airtable in sync with a Postgres database.
2. Some people have warehouse tables with many billions of rows.
3. If you have a billion rows, you need to hit a very high rows per second number in order to run a sync in a feasible amount of time. Also, we have an event collection product, which allows customers to feed events into Hightouch in realtime, and a personalization API product, which allows customers to hit an API and get a low-latency response for how a given user’s experience should be personalized. Making sure that the new data flowing into the events API is processed, and data is ready in the personalization API for fast fetching, needs to be fast.
4. It’s true that syncing often implies some bi-directionality. In this case we think about “syncing” the destination system state to that present in the source system. It’s nice because you can use the source system as the source of truth and trust that any edits you make will be reflected elsewhere. Possibly across many destinations.

| Founding and Lead SWE | $8.77m ARR | VC+patio11-backed startup looking to build the Walmart for import-export | London | In-Person
Merry Christmas! We’re looking to hire our first Senior / Lead SWE. Significant equity on the table and competitive salary (inversely proportional with the equity offer, think b/w 1 and 2.25). We’ve grown 3.28x in the last year and your mission is to help us maintain the exponential!
You’ll be helping build the software backend for the Walmart of import-export. That means integrations for new marketplaces and suppliers, accountancy, pricing and order optimisation, logistics etc. You’ll be reporting to the co-founder/ceo but also reviewing his code <'the most disorganised code i have seen in my entire life' said one person in a code review, apologies!!!> 🙂
What we do: we buy stock in one country and sell it to customers in a different country. Stock purchasing and logistics is handled by an internal backend which you will be helping to write!
About you: >1.5σ on ambition, >2.15σ on building amazing things, >1σ on being good company in the office at 10pm. Generally formidable. Has some business sense. Wants to drive a forklift (our office and warehouse are on the same site).

| Forklifts and Postgres – export startup backed by patio11 is hiring its second engineer – Full-time | London, Acton | 80k base + 0.5% equity
About us:
Revenue for June 2024 was just over £300,000, an over 5-fold increase on this time last year.
We’re an export company, investors include patio11, charlie songhurst and Backed VC. Myself (Ethan) and Ruairidh started the company while students at Cambridge in August 2021, and after several pivots have ended up in logistics/export, fast growing, and profitable. We’re chasing down £1m monthly revenue in December 2024, and want someone who loves the idea of shipping code and containers to get us there
About the role: Our first software engineering hire is joining next monday, and we are looking for one more, to write code on the desk next to me! You’ll be shipping code to support new sales channels, wiring up label printers, probably eating an unhealthy amount of takeaway as a deliveroo editions is on the same warehouse block as us, and potentially being a backup forklift driver.
We disproportionately value earnestness and willingness to solve messy problems than extensive tech experience. Solving problems in logistics can involve a mix of code writing, data cleaning, and filling out forms. You were warned 🙂

We work with some of the best emerging fund managers to ensure every deserving startup has access to capital.
I was hired into the role from one of these HN threads last summer. One of the things that attracted me most was the density of former founders and aspiring entrepreneurs on the team.
We’re hiring full-stack engineers with experience building web applications at scale. Fintech knowledge is a plus, but not required.
I’m the hiring manager for two senior roles on our Funds Engineering team. We’re building the data layer that powers our general ledger. We work on some of the most interesting datasets out there: We model capital flows in the venture ecosystem to understand where value accrues and, ultimately, which investors and founders win or lose.
I’d be happy to talk about these roles, about any open role we have at AngelList (https://www.angellist.com/careers#open-positions), or any questions you might about working here. | https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42919502#c7468722868ebcfabfaa5493dd76a9fa0ddda590a3ef2bbbc6b1687532d18584 |

| Not the person you’re replying to and I don’t work for the MTA but some of the radio boxes you are seeing are likely Ultra Wideband radio beacons used for train positioning.
Similar concept to GPS but instead of satellites (which aren’t so good when the trains go underground or even when they are above ground but have high building skyline obstructions) the train positions itself based on time-of-flight pings to these beacons with known locations and using multilateration to figure out where the train must be based on the distance information.
Source: Working for a company in San Diego (but travelling to NYC often) I wrote a now surely obsolete version of the positioning code (running in MISRA C on what were basically Raspberry Pi devices installed on the trains) back during the proof of concept phases of this system when it was only the 7 line 5-ish years ago back when Andy Byford was still running things.
Spent a lot of late nights on 7 line trains doing real world tests (exciting when we tested the failsafes and the train had to e-brake!) and had to get trained up to be able to walk the rail lines as we’d often be installing the track-side beacons ourselves during low traffic transit times (which is to say, usually in the middle of the night).
If you watch the video here:
https://www.railwayage.com/news/positioning-the-next-generat…
and go to 1:32 you can very briefly see another thing I wrote there, an app which would take the positioning information in real time and overlay it on to openstreetmaps data.
That app was written in Qt/C++ and wasn’t even really part of the system, it was just something I wrote to make it easier to debug any problems with positioning when we could visualize them in a real world context. Generally the only time you’d have positioning errors to debug were due to some of the beacons having incorrect coordinates (I’m sure they’ve ironed this out a lot since the PoC). The debug app ended up being nice and flashy for the media attending the PoC demos though (more exciting to look at than some text logs) which was a nice side benefit. | https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42919502#016e873dcd60cdd79295b7a578d840c1d16c7107820fc276f1d227e0b0b56a39 |

| Supabase.io | Customer Solution Architect / Engineer | Full-time | REMOTE (US)
I am one of the first SAs at Supabase and our role is to help onboard, optimise and advise on all parts of the Supabase platform.
No need to be a postgres expert, you will be working with customers of all sizes and using all aspects of the platform. One minute you might be onboarding an engineering team and the next you might be helping an existing customer with their scaling plans for the next 6 months or triaging a bug/feature request to ensure the Product team understands the context and priority. Technical skills are vital but “self-starter” is equally key. Being able to determine what cases need your attention compared to those that need escalating to Product or Engineering. Excellent comms skills (internal and external) certainly help, too!
I wanted to work at Supabase because of its open source nature and I want to stay here because of its fully remote, autonomous nature. Trust first in the work we do and it is easy to grab a member of the team to solve a problem async.

| GeneralMayhem captured it pretty well, but yeah: it’s complex at every scale. You see some complexity, you zoom in, and you find that the bit you zoomed in on is just as complex!
Our founders are pretty deep domain experts on aws cost management. At this point one of them has pretty much a catch phrase: whenever I say how I think some little aspect of aws billing works, he’ll reply with “Let me complicate that for you” and describe 2-3 edge cases where what I thought I knew doesn’t quite apply. 🙂 | https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42919502#b18475f034d56753f093d264bc3c6a0766a1578e354701940600fd58901fea29 |
| Not the person you’re replying to, but I often use “fractal complexity” to describe problems with a certain character, and I (and I assume this poster as well) mean it in the more precise sense: as Wikipedia puts it, fractals have “detailed structure at arbitrarily small scales”. Fractal problems have complexity at every level of resolution; they’re tricky in broad strokes, and if you zoom into one area it’s internally complex, and if you zoom into any sub-area it’s internally complex, and so on, forever.
Most of computing is this way if we’re honest about it; the space of possible sub-disciplines of software engineering is nearly infinite, as is every possible subfield thereof, or sub-sub-field, or… | https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42919502#b9cdb31e4bdf7955d37aa6d5f0f7fb0f8debfa3dabf62e0ca4a8bfe2871e3938 |

| AudioDiary https://audiodiary.ai | Flutter/Node/Express/TS/TypeORM/Next | Fully remote, based in London, UK | part-time
We are a fully bootstrapped company and we’ve recently started making enough to be able to afford a part-time intern. AudioDiary is a modern journalling app made with love and we have users telling us personally on a daily basis that it’s making a meaningful change to their lives. This role will exceed full-stack expectations in the sense that you’ll be encouraged to take full control over your features, coding them up, but also talking to users, thinking about UX design, graphic design, and any other important jobs that makes a startup work. In general, we’ll be there for guidance and to help you get things over the line, but will give you as much autonomy and choice as is possible, so you can choose your own work.
The stipend for this is limited, but it will be completely part-time, on a choose-your-own-hours kind of basis and would be a fantastic learning experience on a real world project for a creative and talented dev early on in their career.
